Thursday, January 29th, 2009I was asked by someone to send in a writing sample to a then-in-the-works review site. He liked it, but didn’t like me, which I guess is how these things go. I check every now and then. I don’t think they ever got it off the ground.
Isn’t all pop music for airports– ephemeral, never-arriving, looking the same as the place you just left? Isn’t setting your video in an airport redundant? Feist spends the bulk of “My Moon My Man” doing the Modern Woman Stomp the wrong way down a moving sidewalk, tacking against the human tide. Everyone else is constantly moving, somewhere, to where pop stars are properly tarted up; away from here, where everything from knee-length skirt and raincoat to talent-show dance routines is a calculated refusal to play a game you’re fairly certain she’d be good at. And strobe lights. Those are always fun.
